Ay item that costs a lot of money should be insured. A hearing aid does cost a lot of money. If we have to upgrade every so often the last thing we need is the extra expense of having to replace a device for a reason that should fall under insurance. Hearing aid insurance is granted by certain insurance companies but it is not a standard issue with most companies. If you or a family member uses a hearing aid make certain to voice your opinion regarding this matter to as many insurance companies as you can. In fact make a concerted effort to get the best deal possible that includes your hearing aid insurance.

Hearing Aid Insurance A Growing Possibility

Unlike most of the technology you have at home, most companies will not insure hearing aids. More and more of the older generation in the United States need hearing aids. Because of this insurance companies are being placed under increasing pressure to provide this coverage. However, there are some forward thinking companies that are already providing insurance. You do have to pay an increased premium for it. If you need a hearing aid it might be worth considering paying the extra money. A hearing aid is important to your health. It is also an expensive piece of equipment to replace. Some companies that do provide coverage are; PlanPlus, Midwest Hearing Industries and ESCO.

There are companies that argue it is too costly to provide coverage as there are so many people over the age of sixty who need a hearing aid. An ever increasing number of Americans are suffering from hearing loss and require a hearing aid. This must lead to a change in opinion by the insurance companies. In addition, this argument does not seem to have a strong basis when insurance is available for eyeglasses. This essential aid is also needed by a huge number of people. There is also the example of problems such as alcoholism that is covered.

There is also the consideration of children who need hearing aids. Without these devices they could suffer speech difficulties as well as learning disabilities. This can affect the normal development of a child as well as his or her general well being. People need to talk about the issue and write letters to the relevant insurance companies. Maybe with enough pressure change can be brought about.

Connecticut, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma and Rhode Island have recently brought into force, laws that Health Plans must include Hearing Aids for children. Even so, who is eligible, and the amount of coverage, does vary depending on the age of the child and the type of hearing loss they have. It’s a start, but still not enough. The tide is slowly changing, due to pressure on the Insurance Companies, from more and more people. It is certainly an important issue for those who suffer hearing loss.

Some people have sent letters of complaint to their Insurance Company and been granted limited levels of coverage for their trouble. If you need a hearing aid, it just might be worth discussing that possibility with your provider. Curiously enough, although they refuse to insure a hearing aid, they will cover ear surgery. In most cases, those who suffer from the type of hearing loss that requires cochlear implants are nearly always covered. Medicare and Medicaid do not cover hearing aids. But if your doctor requests funding it is illegal to refuse. People have received payment in this way.

This link, http://www.listen-up.org/haidfund.htm , will take you to the ‘Listen Up’ website. It can provide you with lots of detailed information with regards to insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid. It also has information relative to the different laws for the different states throughout the USA.
